Workshop: THE VOICE OF THE RESEARCHER
Dr. Evangelos Angelakis
WHEN?
Thursday, 19th of February 2 PM
WHERE?
Room 3.01
2-hour practical workshop – FBAUL
WHAT?
This is a workshop presented by the KNUA partner under the CAPHE Marie Curie project – Community, Art and Participation in Hybrid Environments and with the hosting of VICARTE-FBAUL and CIEBA-FBAUL research centers aiming to train the skills of the academic community of FBAUL regarding communication in research events. Academic ideas gain power only when they are clearly heard, understood, and embodied. “The Voice of the Researcher” is a 2-hour practical workshop designed primarily for MA and PhD students who wish to present their work in conferences, lectures, and academic settings.
HOW?
Drawing on 22 years of continuous teaching experience and long-standing empirical and scientific research on the human voice, Dr Evangelos Angelakis (Opera Singer/Voice Trainer/Voice Researcher) introduces participants to efficient, healthy, and expressive voice use in academic communication.
The workshop combines principles from voice physiology, acoustics, pedagogy, and performance practice, offering concrete tools for producing a voice that is audible without strain, intelligible, stable under pressure, and communicatively confident. Based on Dr Angelakis’ teaching and research experience at institutions such as the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Haute école de musique de Genève, the session focuses on posture, breathing coordination, vocal resonance, articulation, and perceptual presence—helping researchers develop a vocal delivery that supports authority, clarity, and professional credibility while protecting vocal health.

Workshop: TRAINING THE RESEARCHER
Eleftheria Giareni
WHEN?
Thursday, 19th of February 4 PM
WHERE?
Room 3.01
A workshop using tangible tools and techniques designed to enhance presentation skills. To make the training as practical and relevant as possible, participants can bring a topic (or presentation) that they would like to work on during the session.
This workshop would be particularly beneficial for:
· PhD students preparing presentations or posters for conferences
· Researchers and students who wish to improve presentation and public speaking skills
· Early-career researchers and anyone interested in strengthening their ability to
communicate scientific work effectively
HOW?
Train the Researcher in you and communicate Your Research with Impact
Workshop Overview: A practical, interactive workshop designed to help scientists plan, deliver, and leverage scientific presentations with confidence and clarity—whether on stage, online, or in the hallway between sessions.
Module 1: Planning, Preparing & Practicing
Laying the foundation for a strong scientific presentation
What makes a good scientific presentation?
Understanding your audience & managing expectations
Choosing the right format: presenting yourself and your data
Key questions to answer before you design your slides
Defining your key message – Outstanding research starts with a clear objective
Module 2: Delivering the Scientific Presentation
From slides to story—making your research memorable
Overcoming common presentation challenges
Slide design: PowerPoint or alternatives?
Elevator pitches: why figures rule
Time-bound presentations & location constraints
Storytelling in science: virtual vs. face-to-face delivery
The one factor that changes everything
Module 3: Extra Goals Beyond the Talk
Maximizing impact beyond the presentation
Networking & audience engagement
Strategic conference participation
Turning presentations into opportunities
What will you gain from every talk?
Your trainer – Eleftheria Giareni
She is a researcher and educational designer with a scientific background in Cognitive Science, giving emphasis on training in design and delivery in technology-enhanced learning environments. Her work focuses on applied research into how people learn, make decisions, and develop skills through structured training programs, drawing on cognitive mechanisms such as attention, memory, cognitive load, and cognitive biases.
She has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based training and e-learning programs, contributing to international scientific conferences and initiatives that connect cognitive science with education and professional development.
