Alexandre Estrela, André Trindade, António Olaio, Catarina Branco, Daniel Antunes Pinheiro, Fernando Fadigas, João Caeiro Farias, João Ferro Martins , João Mouro, Luisa Cunha, Mariana Gomes Gonçalves, Miguel Sá, Miguel Soares
Zaratan is thrilled to present “Some little voices inside my head” an exhibition integrated in the Pós Graduação of Sound Art of the Faculdade de Belas Artes, University of Lisbon.
With shared curatorship between the professors of the postgraduate course and Zaratan’s artists, the exhibition aims to approach sound from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and formal solutions, bringing together a small transgenerational set of artists with students from the FBAUL.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an intense parallel program of sound experiments, concerts, performances and other live events.
We are about to faint, we hear in the distance, very close to a free, constant frequency, tinging the electric corners of the body. Faced with a certain eternal chasm of possibilities, one chooses between awakening and collapsing to maintain a certain amplification that is not declared to the outside. We try to have a speaker at peak amplitude, first on the right side and then on the left: brief exercise of panoramas that no one listens to. Graduation of life, balance and weight of the channel. We rewrite the given frequencies, modeling them against the mirror of the listening being; they are the unconscious sounds of the body in the flesh, nerve in the world, exposed and disposed asymmetrical day by day, of those who choose to change stations, press the rec button and leave.
Opening: June 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
On display: from 22 June to 21 July 2018

Jun 21 2018CONFERENCE 28 > 30 JUNE I UNIVERSIDADE LUSÓFONA // IMERSIVO/IMMERSIVE 29 JUNE > 21 JULY I SNBA
Final Programme for 2018 S&I Media Conferece is already available!
This year we will have a nineteenth-century inspired daguerreotype studio. You will be able to witness this amazing process and take the result home with you!
As in our previous edition, there will also be 3D film screenings! Edgar Pêra, Esther Jacopin and Florent Médina are some of the experimental 3D cinema directors S&I Media will feature. You will also be able to talk with the directors in the end of the screening session’s debate.
We planned a visit to the Museum of Mechanical Music, next to Lisbon, which has a collection of more than 600 sound and musical items that move exclusively through mechanical systems from the late 1800s to the 1930s. In 2017, the Museum was awarded the Visitable Colection and Best Website Awards by the Portuguese Museology Association. Visitable Colection Award distinguishes “public or private spaces, with the presentation of a set of cultural goods that follows all the standards of communication, security and conservation”.
You can check all the Programme details here.

S&I Media 2018 Exhibition
Curators: Victor dos Reis and Rogério Taveira
Venue: Fine Arts Society, Lisbon
Dates: 29 June to 21 July
We are glad to announce the six projects selected for our very first exhibition Imersivo | Immersive:
Daydream Nation, Sandra Zuzarte Ferreira
This multimedia installation, created after Gerhard Richter’s work, suggests the deconstruction of a stereoscopic visualization process and a reflection on the act of seeing itself, while evoking the Schrödinger’s paradox to illustrate the creation of ghosts and simulacra.
Wandering Gaze, Ana Teresa Vicente
This project explores the relation established between the observer’s gaze and a certain image. Through the use of eye-tracking technology, this interactive installation suggests the suspension of gravity by a hidden force through the experience of a prosthetic gaze that pierces the observed object.
Passagem, Ana Catarina Teixeira
With this work, the artist seeks an approach to sleep, creating interactions between the concepts of vulnerability and human existence. This sound installation reflects on sleep as a verge state between two worlds and falling asleep as the moment of exterior absence, evoking the threshold between life and death.
Eccentric Spaces, Águeda Simó
This video installation explores the plasticity of stereo depth and its immersive qualities. Stereo depth can be manipulated to create eccentric dimensions and reveal hidden worlds that only exist inside the stereoscopic projections.
Atmosmancy, Ivo Louro
Atmosmancy is an immersive sound installation that explores the sonification of environmental data on climate changes and atmosphere pollution in Portugal. Atmosmancy transforms this monitored and projected data into corresponding sound streams, spatializing them via 10 audio speakers.
Her Fears / Her Dreams, Jennifer Crane
Series of stereoscopic photographs (7”x 3” archival pigment prints) based on historical views of western Canada and on the photographic archives of William Notman, who owned and operated one of the largest photographic studios in Canada during the nineteenth century.

- animated drawing, Scuola di Urbino;
Roberto Catani, Gianluigi Toccafondo, Magda Guidi, Mara Cerri, Virginia Mori, Marco Capellacci
- Mixed techniques, puppets and sculpture, Bologna, Firenze, Parma, Lucca, Pesaro
Stefano Ricci, Alvise Renzini, Virgilio Villoresi, Basmati, Francesco Vecchi, Beatrice Pucci
- Digital Video, the Experimental Center of Turin, Milano, Modena, Venezia
Michele Bernardi, Igor imhoff, Martina Scarpelli, Mauro Carraro
The country’s polycentric landscape results in a diverse, interesting and unique environment. This very Italian characteristic is highlighted by a route where you can browse what is happening in this very particular area of auteur animated film.
And so we start with the classic technique of drawn animation and, therefore, at the Urbino School of the Book We then move to places such as Bologna, Florence and Rome, but also Parma and Pesaro, where we track down productions by authors using pictures, puppets and mixed media, to conclude in the digital sector where the landscape includes the Experimental Centre of Cinematography of Turin and extends to Milan, Modena and Venice.
These divisions should not be interpreted rigidly, but they can be useful in defining such a widespread and diversified panorama not only along technical lines, but in a more subtle aesthetic and thematic manner, seeing as most productions presented are authorial in character.
The selection of filmmakers is connected to the recent release of the fourth “Animations” DVD, curated by Paola Bristot and Andrea Martignoni, the fourth in a series of DVD anthologies began in 2010 that have tried to collect the best animated short films made in Italy, in light of ever increasing attention towards and amount of this type of film on the international level.
From this point of view, the style and quality of the work demonstrates a vitality and excitement that seems interesting to endorse also through a dedicated projection.
