Design for community building

23RD JUNE 20205 > 5PM I LAGOA HENRIQUES AUDITORIUM
Design for community building
Lessons learned from 20 years of social innovation
Lecture by Ezio Manzini
With over three decades dedicated to design for sustainability, Ezio Manzini is one of the essential voices in the field of social innovation. In recent years, his work has focused on how design can contribute to a just and ecological transition.
In his presentation, Manzini will explore the role of contemporary communities — fluid, open networks built around shared projects — and the challenge of creating conditions for them to emerge and thrive. According to him, communities cannot be designed, but it is possible to design the contexts that enable their flourishing. This involves infrastructures that support collaboration, stimuli that inspire collective action, and design capabilities that are widespread in society — critical, collaborative, and proactive.
The talk, delivered in English, will be illustrated with concrete examples from two decades of work in design for social innovation.
