emerging — Emerging and laying the foundations for a proposal of an academic artistic research collection
The EMERGING project is currently underway in launching a proposal for the creation of a collection of academic artistic research, based on the selection of epistemic objects emanating from doctoral and post-doctoral theses conducted in Portugal. Epistemic objects are considered elements that not only correspond to the final work, but also, throughout the research process, underpin the path of the final proposal, add something lateral, or are situated between the thesis’s purpose and give rise to other artistic iterations. They can be artist books, graphic schemes, methods and methodologies, rhetoric, discourses and structures, final works, among others. The importance of these objects lies in their ability to provide transfer of artistic knowledge to academic peers and doctoral students, beyond the PDF document. At the same time, by aiming towards a digital university museum proposal, they pave the way for reception by other audiences interested in contemporary art. Currently, the team is in contact with the artists whose works have been selected and is arranging for the reservation of spaces for the pop-up exhibition that will circulate in some of the participating institutions in the project, including FBAUP, UÉvora, and FBAUL.
