art at your door?

The project “Art at your door?” is based on a productive relationship between a group of owners of houses in the process of legalization in Quinta da Torrinha in Lisbon and a group of artists, for the permanent installation of works on the façades of some houses in the neighbourhood. The process of legalization in the AUGI presupposes a set of improvements in the buildings, which, by not pointing out the existence of art as a requirement in the properties, indirectly adds an element of quality to the image of the buildings, contributing to the qualitative reconfiguration of the public space of the neighbourhood. 

In order to make this project possible, we assumed that the voluntary and participatory involvement of the neighbourhood’s inhabitants, preferably the owners, in the process of discussing the works with the artists, would function as a moment of sharing and critical reading of the past, collecting the personal life stories of the first and second generations of families who settled in that area of the city in the 1960s.

This exhibition presents a synthesis of the first phase of the artistic work developed in the neighbourhood by António Leitão, Diogo Nunes, Filipa Baptista, Inês Escumalha, Guilherme Ponte, Luzia Alves, Ricardo Imperial, Susana Gorjão and Raf. This project is a partnership between the Sculpture Group of the CIEBA, the CML and the Comissão de Moradores da Quinta da Torrinha, for a research project of the FBAUL Master’s in Sculpture.
